Measures and timers are user-defined measurement periods for which time measurements are included in the results repository and individual result files. You should create measures or timers for each component of a transaction of which you wish to analyze performance.
Measures and timers enable you to analyze the following:
Throughput information. The rate at which a given measure or timer is processed on average by the server. This allows you to analyze performance from the point of view of the server.
Response time information. The total time to process a given measure or timer. This provides application performance information from the point of view of the client computer.
Silk Performer automatically performs time measurements for transactions, Web forms, Web errors, SQL commands, and SQL errors.
