Terminal Emulators

This COBOL system supports a number of terminal emulators, for example xterm, which can be used with the requisite environment settings.

In the case of xterm, set the TERM environment variable to xterm, or xterm-color if your xterm supports it.

There are a number of non-native terminal emulators that can be used with this COBOL system when connecting to the host system remotely. The following section contains a list of some of the popular products and their recommended settings to help you connect:

Micro Focus Rumba
  • Within the UNIX Display window, select the terminal type to ANSI (SCO).
  • Set the TERM environment variable to ansi80x25.
PuTTY
Within the PuTTY Configuration screen:
  • Select Xterm R6 from the Terminal > Keyboard category.
  • Set the TERM environment variable to xterm-color, or xterm-color.
  • If line drawing is required, do not use the default UTF-8 remote character set setting. Change this in the Window > Translation category.
Cygwin
(Also known as mintty.)
Set the TERM environment variable to xterm or xterm-color.
