Load and Unload a Structure File

You can switch between a formatted and an unformatted view of the data file by loading and unloading structure files. If a structure file was already applied when the data file was opened, you can unload it and load another structure file.
  1. From the Micro Focus Data File Tools window, click File > Open > File, or click (Open File).

    The Open dialog box appears.

  2. Navigate to the required data file, then click Open.

The Open Data File dialog box appears.

  3. If you are applying a record layout, click Browse to the right of the Structure File (optional) field, then use the Open dialog box to navigate to and select the structure (.str) file that contains the layout.
  4. Click Open Shared (to open the file in read-only mode) or Open Exclusive (to open the file in edit mode).

The file is displayed on its own tab in the main window.

  5. If the data file is displayed unformatted, on the Structure menu, click Load Structures, and then use the Open dialog box to select a structure file. The structure file is applied to the data file.
  6. If the data file is already displayed formatted, do one of the following:
    • On the Structure menu, click Load Structures, and then use the Open dialog box to select a structure file.

The structure file is applied to the data file.

    • On the Structure menu, click Unload Structures.

The current structure file is removed from the data file, and the data file is displayed unformatted.
