Creating an Executable External Link

  1. On the Administration menu, click External Links. The External Links window is displayed.
  2. Right-click in the window and click New External Link. The Select External Link Type dialogue is displayed.
  3. Select External executable and then click OK. The relevant new External Link - External executable dialogue is displayed.
  4. Complete the required fields and options.

General tab

  • Link name - the name of the link
  • Icon - select the icon for the new link

  • Executable file - select the location of the executable file from a pre-defined system path
    • Within special folder - select from:
      • Other
      • Program Files
      • Content Manager Installation Folder - the folder where trim.exe is installed
      • Windows
      • Windows System
      • Program Files (x86)
      • Deployed by Content Manager - select this option to upload the DLL or EXE to the Content Manager Document Store. The External Link should be registered first. When a client runs the add-in, it will check to see if it has the latest version, if not, it will download it from the Document Store and then launch the add-in.
    • Folder or subfolder - if applicable, the subfolder where the add-in is located, or the full path if you selected None in the previous option
    • Executable file name - the executable developer should provide you with the executable file name
  • Working folder - the folder to hold files created by the executable
  • Link supports tagged processing - select to enable the link to process multiple tagged Content Manager records
    • Command line parameters when doing tagged processing - click the KwikSelect to display the Insert External Link Parameter dialogue box. Select the parameters to be passed to the executable:
      • Special Substitution Parameter - from the drop-down menu, select a special substitution parameter.
        Multiple parameters can be selected, but each selection must be saved by clicking OK on the Insert External Link Parameter dialogue box repeating the selection process.
      • Parameter Value must be non-blank for link to execute - select for the linked application to run only when the selected parameters contain a value.
    • Use tagged command line format for single selection - use the command line format for a single selection.
  • Default record command line parameters - click the KwikSelect to display the Insert External Link Parameter dialogue box. Select the parameters to be passed to the executable. Multiple parameters, of different types, can be selected, but each selection must be saved by clicking OK on the Insert External Link Parameter dialogue box before repeating the selection process.
    • Standard Property - from the drop-down menu, select a standard Content Manager property value.
    • Additional Field - from the drop-down menu, select aContent Manager Additional Field property value.
    • Special Substitution Parameter - from the drop-down menu, select a special substitution parameter.
    • Parameter Value must be non-blank for link to execute - select this option to run the External Link only when the selected parameters contain a value.
  • Only use this link for records having the following file types - type in the file extensions that this executable can be used on.

Click OK to save the new link.
