Field and Text Attributes

Restriction: This topic applies only when the AppMaster Builder AddPack has been installed, and applies only to Windows platforms.
Name
Type the I/O field name; maximum 16 characters. Text fields do not have names because programs do not reference them. If you give a screen field the same name as its corresponding database field, Online Express automatically maps the relationship for you, prefixing the field name with the screen name; otherwise you must type the database field names into your program.
Text
Type the text you want to appear in the field.
Initial Value
Type a value to display in the field when the field first appears; the maximum is the length of the field 27 characters, whichever is less.
Row and Column
Shows the row and column where the field is located on the screen.
Length
Shows the length of the field.
Protected
Check this to prevent users from entering information into an output only field.
Intensity
Select an intensity level. placeCityNormal is the default.
MDT on
Check this to set the Modified Data Tag. The default is to always send the screen field data to the program when the user presses Enter.

Uncheck this to send the screen field data only when the end user modifies the data. In this case, the unmodified data is lost because the MDT value changes to ON when the user modifies a field.

Numeric
Check this to activate the numeric keyboard shift lock function when the cursor moves into the field. This restricts the user from entering non-numeric data into the field.
Detectable
Check this if the field is light pen detectable.
Cursor
Check this to indicate that the cursor should be positioned on the field when the screen is sent. Not supported in IMS.
Mod
Check this to enable the end user to modify the field.
Color
Select the initial color of a field on a full color terminal.
Highlight
Select Blink to create a flashing field.

Select Underline to create an underlined field.

Select Rvideo to create a dark field with light letters.

Format
Select the character format for a field on DBCS terminals. Selecting None (default) implies the field is EBCDIC only.
Ruled Line
Select the line placement around a field on DBCS terminals.

None - do not place any lines around the field.

L - place a line to the left side of the field.

R - place a line to the right side of the field.

O - place a line over the field.

U - place a line under the field.

B - place a line surrounding the field.

00-0F - place a combination of lines around the field.
