6.5 Editing a File

When possible, Micro Focus recommends using the Filr Desktop Client, which facilitates editing through standard desktop applications and ensures that file changes are automatically synchronized on the network.

You can also download a file to your workstation to edit it, or, depending on the browser you are using, you might be able to edit it by using Filr’s edit-in-place functionality.

IMPORTANT:

  • We recommend that you do not use the edit-in-place functionality in combination with the Micro Focus Filr Plugin for Microsoft Office to edit Office files. For more information about editing files using Microsoft Office application, see Editing and Saving a File to the Filr Server in the Filr 4: Using Micro Focus Filr with Microsoft Office and Outlook Applications guide.

After you edit an Office file using the edit-in-place functionality, you must use the File > Save option in the Office application to save the file. Do not use the Save option available in Micro Focus Filr Plug-in menu to save the file.

  • You can use the edit-in-place functionality to edit a file only if your Filr Administrator has enabled WebDAV on the Filr site.

6.5.1 Downloading and Editing a File

To download and edit a file through your web browser, do the following:

  1. Download the file to your workstation, as described in Downloading Single Files.

  2. Edit the file as desired, then save the file with the original name.

  3. In Filr, navigate to the folder where the file is located, then click Add Files.

    A drag-and-drop window is displayed.

  4. Drag the file into the drag-and-drop window.

  5. In the File Conflicts dialog box that appears, click Overwrite Files to replace the file that is currently in Filr with the one you are uploading.

The file is replaced with the file that you uploaded.
