Gartner Report: Use Adaptive Release Governance to Remove Constraints to DevOps

According to Gartner, "Many DevOps journeys are shackled by manual release governance processes that constrain agility. To accelerate delivery cadence, I&O leaders must decentralize release governance by developing communities of practice to define controls and by leveraging automation tools to eliminate manual work."

Gartner further adds, “by 2023, 90% of organizations will fail to meet required release velocities to deliver full business value to their customers if they use a centralized release management approach in DevOps environments.”

In this report, Gartner identifies key challenges and provides recommendations to facilitate DevOps success with adaptive release governance.

Key Recommendations in this report:

  • "Decentralize release governance by empowering DevOps product teams to own their releases.
  • Define and codify controls for DevOps product teams by developing communities of practice (CoPs) and encouraging active participation from all stakeholders.
  • Increase release cadence by using DevOps toolchains to automatically mitigate compliance, governance and information security risks prior to release.”
