Field properties

Once a field has been made active, you can modify the properties for that field.

You cannot modify field properties for form layout elements, for example Line or Tab.

The fields Properties dialogue has two available tabs - General and Tooltip.

To access the fields that have been added to a Record Type form:

  1. From the Manage ribbon, click Record Types. From the displayed list of Record Types, navigate to, right-click on the Record Type to be updated and click Properties.
    The Record Type - <record type name> dialogue is displayed.
  2. The Form page displays all fields and elements that have been added to the form, you can also modify the form from this page.

General tab

To view and update the Properties of a field:

  1. On the Form page, navigate to and select the form field that is to be updated.
  2. Click Properties.
    The Form field - <element name> dialogue is displayed.
  3. Click the General tab.

The General tab has different available options, according to the type of field you selected:

NOTE:

  • The Properties dialogue box also enables you to modify the caption of the field using the Alternative Caption option. To modify the captions of Custom Properties, see Record Type Additional Fields page.
  • Mandatory fields - if a field on a New Record form is made mandatory after a record is created and that record did not have data in the field, then the other fields for that record will not be available until a user either enters data in that field or the field is set to be optional. This is due to the dynamic type relationship between Record Types and their records.

Adding Custom Tooltips to fields

The Tooltip tab allows organizations to add their own custom tooltip, the text that is displayed in a small, boxed text message that pops up when a mouse cursor hovers over a field. It allows organizations to provide additional information about field(s) that are included on the record entry form. The Tooltip tab is available for all field property types with the exception of the Page elements.

To add a custom tooltip:

  1. On the Form page, navigate to and select the form field that is to be updated.
  2. Click Properties.
    The Form field - <element name> dialogue is displayed.
  3. Click the Tooltip tab.
  4. In the Please enter a tooltip for this field, type in the details that are to be displayed as the tooltip for the selected form field.
  5. Click OK.

The added text will pop up when a user hovers over the field on the record entry form, either when creating a new record using that form, or when looking at record Properties of an existing record.
