Dataset setup and maintenance
A Content Manager dataset represents a full document and records management system with all the data elements, record objects and repositories.
The dataset consists of a database component on a Relational Database Management System (RDBMS) and a storage component on any storage device in the network.
Each dataset exists independently of others. There is no communication or connection between datasets.
You can use the client software to switch between different datasets while server components can manage multiple datasets simultaneously.
Content Manager datasets are stored in a back-end database. This database contains all the information that is unique to the dataset.
To work with a dataset in Content Manager Enterprise Studio, you need to create it there first and then register it with the two following commands.
- Right-click Datasets for the commands:
- Create Dataset - to create or set up a new Content Manager dataset.
See Creating a Content Manager dataset for further details.
- Register Dataset - to register an existing Content Manager dataset in Content Manager Enterprise Studio so you can work with it.
- Create Dataset - to create or set up a new Content Manager dataset.
The list of configured datasets appears.
- Right-click a dataset for the commands:
NOTE: The commands that are available for a dataset depend on the dataset type.
- Schema - contains the commands:
- Upgrade - to upgrade the dataset schema.
See Upgrading a dataset schema
After a schema upgrade, you must restart the Content Manager Servers.
This function is for upgrading Content Manager schemas to later schema releases only.
See CM23.4_Install.pdf about upgrading.
- Manage - to check and fix table errors that may have accumulated.
- Analyze - enables you to analyze the table statistics for the dataset.
- Upgrade - to upgrade the dataset schema.
- Event Processing
- Configure - displays the Configure Event Processing for Dataset: <Name (ID)> dialog box.
- Monitor - displays the Monitor Event Processing dialog box to monitor event processing.
- Check Allocation - checks the correct allocation of events to the Workgroup Servers. Especially after changing Workgroup Servers for event processing, use this command when you suspect that some events may not have been allocated correctly.
- Content Index - to set up and modify content index details for the dataset.
NOTE: This section assumes you are using OpenText Intelligent Data Operating Layer (IDOL) for document content indexing (DCI) as described in CM23.4_IDOL_DCI_Install_Config.pdf.
It is not relevant if you are setup and configured to use Elasticsearch as described in CM23.4_ElasticsearchInstall_Config.pdf.- Create IDOL - see Setting up document content indexing and searching
- Check - see Checking or optimizing a document content index
- Optimize - see Checking or optimizing a document content index
- Monitor - displays the Monitor IDOL Server dialog box with the last 25 events that the IDOL Server received
- Remove - see Removing a document content index
- Properties - to modify the dataset's content index details:
- IDOL Configuration tab
- Utilities - to modify other dataset details:
- Audit Log Viewer - for viewing logs created by Content Manager Enterprise Studio.
These will open in Notepad. See Logging.
- Availability - to set the dataset availability and notification message options.
- Index Text - select an index list and recreate it to reindex selected word fields.
See Index Text.
- Export - to migrate a dataset to another database type.
See Migrating databases.
- Audit Log Viewer - for viewing logs created by Content Manager Enterprise Studio.
- Authentication - see authentication mechanisms supported by Content Manager Enterprise Studio.
- Check Database Connectivity - a diagnostic message will display if there are connectivity issues with the database.
- Remove - removes the dataset from Content Manager Enterprise Studio
NOTE: This will not delete the dataset itself, but remove this reference to it.
- Enable Database - switches the dataset between being available for processing and being unavailable.
The dataset remains in the list. You can use this feature for dataset administration and maintenance.
When the dataset is enabled, there is a check mark beside this menu command.
The dataset status is also visible beside it in the list of datasets, as Enabled, or Disabled. - Properties - to set and modify dataset properties.
For more detail, see:
- Schema - contains the commands:
NOTE: Any log files that are generated from performing an action on a dataset will be written to the C:/Users/<username>/AppData/Local/Micro Focus/Content Manager/Log directory.
